Apart from the excellent design skills from Peter Rich, we see this as an indication, that work from African architects is getting more and more attention and that architectural issues from Africa are no longer excluded from the global architectural debate.
Peter Rich won the price for his ‘Mapungubwe Interpretation Centre’ situated in the Mapungubwe national park in South Africa. It is located at the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe rivers and found it’s inspiration for the design and materials of construction in the surrounding landscape.
According to the World Architecture Award’s jury the reason for which Peter Riches ‘Mapungubwe Interpretation Centre’ won the price, lies in the way it relates to the land and makes graceful virtues out of the challenging issues of sustainability, politics and social improvement.
