ANZA is an architectural magazine dedicated to exploring people and spaces through in-depth articles, images, scenes and discussions that go beyond the lines that divide building and sky.
In their exploration, they hope to better understand the transforming East-African cities – and their identities – by looking at past, present, and future with fun, seriousness and humor.
In this way, they hope to shape the planning, engineering, and architecture of our cities; and add richness to our living spaces. With the vision of creating a platform for discourse on the transforming cities of East Africa, Camenzind (an Association based in Zurich) launched a workshop: “East Africa’s first architectural magazine: Camenzind goes East Africa,” that would produce an architectural magazine following the development of the region’s metropolis’.
The aim of the workshop was both to produce the first issue of such a magazine, as well as establish a team that would sustain a biannual publication.

Regina Muchai, Kenyan trained and experienced physical planner, recently completed her masters of Science in the field of Urban Planning and Management at the International Institute for Geo-information
Science and Earth Observation (ITC) in the Netherlands (March 2009).
Here she presents her study into how informal areas can adapt
to current urban realities utilizing Geographic Information Systems as a way to enhance infrastructure affordability.
[Text by Regina Muchai]
The importance of appropriate planning standards has been emphasized
by various authors and planning professionals. It is truly not a novel idea.
However, a key justification to the use of appropriate planning standards
is to enhance infrastructure affordability by both the municipalities and
the community as well as to minimize the use of buildable urban land
thereby improving shelter provision strategies for the urban poor. In Kenya, there have been efforts to reformulate the planning standards in the

FARE is an architectural practice created in Rome in 2006 by Riccardo Vannucci and Giuseppina Forte, complemented by a team of young professionals.
Given our current condition as an outsider, FARE intentionally presents itself as an anomalous, and perhaps unexpected reality within the Italian panorama and the rituals that characterise it, including the widespread rhetoric of sustainability, eco-compatibility and bio-climatic architecture.
